Michael, a fourth grader who lives in Seattle, WA, has been appointed Student Ambassador for Schools for Salone.
Michael has traveled to Sierra Leone three times with his mother, Cindy Nofziger, to attend the ribbon cutting and opening ceremonies of Sahn, Buma and Masanga Primary Schools in 2/08, for the opening of the Abigail D. Butcher Primary School in Calaba Town in 3/2009 and for the Kpakum and Sembehun school openings in 2/2010. He has visited all the communities and schools that Schools for Salone works with and helps support during the course of his trips to Sierra Leone. (Click here to see photos.)
Michael has helped to facilitate letter writing and camera/photo exchange activities with his school and students in Sierra Leone every year since he was in kindergarden. Michael's favorite things to do in Sierra Leone: eat ice cream where ever he can find it and go to the beach. Back in Seattle, Michael enjoys baseball, soccer, skiing, judo, hanging out with his best friend, riding his bike, and cuddling with his 9 cats. (Click here to see even more photos.)
Michael's summer 2010 project, "Kids Helping Kids", has raised $5557 by year end. He sent a letter to friends and family asking them to send $1 or more to Schools for Salone, designated to his "Kids Helping Kids" program. Then he wants them to send his letter on to 10 of their friends and family. His goal is to raise $10,000 to send 40 Sierra Leone students to school in September. Students in Sierra Leone are already benefiting from his and his many friends' generosity.
