May 16, 2009
in San Francisco, CA
Safa Mannah, 17 years old, who lives in the Bay Area with James Mannah, his Sierra Leonean father and his mother Pam Bohmann held a fundraiser in the Mission District of San Francisco in May of 2009. 150 people attended with $10 fee at the door. Many of them were soccer players like Safa.
Schools for Salone President, Bob Heavner, gave a talk about Sierra Leone, the war, all that Schools for Salone has accomplished and plans for the future. People listened attentively.
June, 2009 - Soccer Clinics
in Sierra Leone
In June 2009, the Mannah family traveled to Sierra Leone and put on soccer training clinics for students at Schools for Salone schools at Jaiama Bongor, Calaba Town, and Kandor. The Mannahs carried with them 70 donated soccer balls and many uniforms.
Safa writes of his experience:
"My family has traveled to Sierra Leone in the past. As we started our next trip we wondered how we could do more while there. My mom and dad have been donors to Schools for Salone and we decided to take Cindy's suggestion of having a sports clinic at the schools. I wrote letters to my friends asking for funds for the schools and our family and friends organized a musical benefit. The response to the letters and benefit was overwhelming. Everyone was excited to help."
"This summer we traveled to Sierra Leone for two and a half weeks. We visited three schools while in the country, two in Bo and one in Freetown. At the schools we delivered enough jerseys, socks, shorts and balls for two teams. We had a great time at the schools and the students were elated when we gave them the supplies. I had a great time doing it and we felt it had a positive impact on the children. Overall it was an enjoyable and gratifying experience."

Thank you Safa Mannah, Family and Friends,
for raising $2,401 for Schools for Salone,
taking soccer equipment to our schools,
and conducting soccer training clinics for the students.
