Although the country is enjoying peace, the educational infrastructure is still recovering from the devastation of a decade-long civil war. This is your chance to get involved in a very rewarding project! The 2nd Schools for Salone Teacher Training Workshop has just completed on July 2, 2010 in Bo. Drs. Catherine and Richard Frazier are already making plans for a 2011 Workshop and are assembling another team of volunteers, under the joint sponsorship of Schools for Salone and Friends of Sierra Leone (http://fosalone.org ).
The Fraziers are both professional educators and were education PCV’s in Sierra Leone in the 70’s. Since 2005 they have enjoyed working with enthusiastic and appreciative teachers in annual workshops in Makeni and Bo. These workshops have focused on integrating local resources with school curriculum and teaching teachers how to create their own teaching and learning materials.
Volunteers are needed to conduct this professional development workshop for teachers in Sierra Leone. Volunteers will be responsible for their own expenses. If you have any interest in this type of volunteer work, please contact:
richard_frazier@hotmail.com
and include "Bo Teacher Workshop" in the subject field.
The 2010 Team has just returned and
More information will be coming here soon!
